I'm not sure if this is the same bug or different. I was installing ubuntu for the first time (hoary) and after
configuring PPP via the gnome network tool, I had no /etc/resolv.conf at all (I had left DNS blank when setting up
PPP, expecting it to get configured when PPP connected).

I spent some time trying to work out how, without a network, I was supposed to work out a DNS server. Anyway, I
eventually resolved it by running wvdial which reports the DNS server on connect and then entering these values
into the button fields.

So, it looks like the network config tool didn't parse the DNS values returned on PPP connect to configure DNS.
