I think that the easiest thing is to update the documentation and to remove the references to the switch -P. It's anoying seeing that the documentation states something that's not working. I don't mind not having the flag -P.

It's true that the call to grep can be substituted by a call to perl quite easily. Although, in this case using perl as one disavantage: the lack of the switch --color which grep has.
