Confirmed on Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish (Ubuntu 22.04 LTS) installed on LVM disk, with GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true.

This bug triggers whenever a boot option other than the first is being selected in the grub menu. Grub won't be able to save that selection.
