I have had 2 problems by updating from Ubuntu 7 to7.1
1: in the bootmanager (grub menu.list) were gone booting windows 2000 and suse 9.0.
I have my computer triple booted.
2: Restoring the menu.list by using the texteditor wasn't possible because I have not the rights.
I have done it my way by using the suse cd-rom to reboot from hard disk to enter suse, so
I can change the menu.list of ubuntu by using the texteditor of suse. So at the end all is working good.
I think it isn't the way to do it so. Updating mustn't damage the menu.list at all. That is the "bug"
