Ok, I've tested it myself in the same "other" Xfce session.

monsta@xubuntu:~$ echo $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP
XFCE
monsta@xubuntu:~$ echo $DESKTOP_SESSION
xfce

So it's clear that the condition in indicator-application source code should be changed.
