Sorry but this did not help.

Did
rm -r ~/.kde/share/apps/kdeprint/*
rm ~/.kde/share/config/kdeprintrc
but it had had no effect, neither on edgy nor on dapper :( .

Note that the tested edgy installation was done using Knot 3 alternate and updated since.
