I installed in the meantime Ubutuntu 7.04. Trying to install KMid tells me, that this is for the KDE-Desktop. I didn't install it, since when I double-clicked a mid-file on the new Ubuntu 7.04 installation, the system proposed to install Amarok - giving errors afterwards. See related bugs:
As I found, also Amarok is made for the KDE-desktop and not for gnome. So I think the problem comes from installing a package designed for KDE (kubuntu), but offered in synaptic for Ubuntu with insufficient installation procedures for the gnome desktop.
I cannot answer the question, if it is an error that KMID (and Amarok) is listed in synaptic for Ubuntu though they are designed of Kubuntu (KDE-desktop) OR if they should be offered for ubuntu as well, but the installation-procedures are not adopted accordingly.
