Bug Description

Kubuntu Dapper 6.04

updated as of 1/24/2006

kicker segfaults (signal 11) on logout
reproduceable, happens almost every time.

All other programs seem to close properly, though the system sometimes freezes with a black screen. That's possibly an xorg/fglrx issue, but it happens sometimes on logout even when not shutting down, so X shouldn't be stopping.

Possibly duplicate of or related to <a href="https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-meta/+bug/28036">bug #28036</a>

Same problem here, in my case I suspect that it's due to XIM (or qtimmodule) because when I close my XIM (nabi) alone having same problem and when I log off KDE without the XIM I don't have this problem. I will attach my backtrace.

And setup for XIM is in .kde/env/nabi.sh like this.

export XMODIFIERS="@im=nabi"
export XIM_PROGRAM=/usr/bin/nabi
export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim
export QT_IM_MODULE=xim

Looks like the same bug on KDE's bugzilla:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=119395

they say it only happens with a konsole open (confirmations?) and is caused by a buggy "libqxim"

Another similar bug report to the one I just posted:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114205
also suggests a problem with libqxim. It also suggests this only happens when kde is upgraded rather than installed from scratch (fresh .kde directory), which is the case for me as I've kept the same /home since Hoary.

"the trick is to not use the XIM support. which is why it affects those who upgrade (XIM was enabled previously but there were no problems, now there is)"

In my case whether konsole is opened or not kicker crashes with XIM at logout, but if I use scim with qtimmodule kicker doesn't crash.
So for me workaround is to set QT_IM_MODULE with scim instead of xim. Of course got to deactivate XIM (I used nabi) and delete any IM env setup in ~/.kde/env.

I haven't had any crashes in the last hours, since the latest upgrade in Dapper to:

libqt3-mt 3:3.3.5-1ubuntu17

I tried hard several times (logging out with Firefox and other apps still
open), and couldn't crash it so far ...
