Fix of patch #6762 for true color

The patch #6762 works indeed for 8-bit Pseudo-Color with SUN-X-Servers, but
breaks 24-Bit-True Color Visual compatibility there. The new attchment contains
a patch derived from #6762 wich works also with True Color. Additionally, code
parts aparrantly obsoleted (?) by pango-1.2 (WORKAROUND_8BIT_GRAYLEVEL,
WORKAROUND_R5G6B5) have been removed. By now it's tested only briefly with
SUN-X-Server on 8-bit Pseudo-Color and 24-Bit-True Color Visuals.
