Compiz 0.8.4 came out recently.

I tested the screensaver problem on karmic with it. All games were fullscreened at my resolution

Wesnoth worked fine
XMoto worked fine
Neverball did not work fine - screensaver kicked me off fullscreen.
Nexuiz worked just fine
