I got the exact same issue as Patrick, running Ubuntu 8.04 with 2.6.24-16-generic on an Acer Aspire 2920. I had sound working before upgrading to 2.6.25-16-generic, I thus agree with Patrick that the problem might be cause by the missing module in the kernel.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated.
