I have the same problem. Whenever I try to get back to an existing system, my graphics go out. I can tell that the system is still active, I just can't see anything and the screen goes haywire. If I type my password and hit enter, even though the screen is blank, I can tell that the system logs me in. CTL+ALT+BACKSPACE does not fix the problem for me, nor does setting the RESTART XSESSION to true.
