Comment 6 for bug 40176

I would like to update the previous comment; On turning the volume to the maximum I did hear a sound, also for startup.wav BUT comparing the sounds I heard with the real sounds on a working computer I noticed that they are quite different.
In a way, what I hear is the first 0,5 second of the tune played twice successively, after which the sound stops AND aplay doest not exit! I have to kill it manually. This explains of course why the aplay processes are still running after gdm boots gnome and switching this option off in gdm, results in the same behaviour for gdm as for kdm and xdm.
I also tried helixplayer to play a song and here I observed the same behaviour. Pressing play only plays the first 0,5 second twice after which it stopped playing. Pulling the time slider forward, plays the sound for that second twice after which it stopped again.

Hopefully this behaviour makes perfect sense to anyone,
