I can understand the DSDT problem as that is common (although I think Asus uses the Intel compiler rather than MS). What doesn't make sense to me is that a development Ubuntu kernel prior to Dapper release works and the Edgy 2.6.17 kernel works as well.

In addition Asus also manufacturers another version of the S96J - the S96F. This model lacks ATI graphics and uses ATA rather than SATA. The S96F works without the acpi=off append.
