Comment 1 for bug 57455

Ok - I waited for the kde sound server to go idle (default 60 seconds) and then:

cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp

This appeared to work as normal, minus any sound output .... Could it be outputting to the headphone port?

ahhh - tested plugging in headphone set while running above command - that in and of itself did not fix it... However, I then opened kmix and played with master volume one more time ... sound came out speakers - not headphone. I will try this again next time i reboot and this does not work.

To recap the workaround I just found:
1) plug in headphone
2) mess with volume level
3) unplug headphone (or not - does not matter - sound is not coming out of headphone anyway)
