Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.17

Dapper has support for this card:

00:0a.0 SCSI storage controller: QLogic Corp. QLA2100 64-bit Fibre Channel Adapter (rev 03)

On Dapper box:

kjotte@calypso:~$ locate qla2100
/lib/modules/2.6.15-27-686/kernel/drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/qla2100.ko
kjotte@calypso:~$ dpkg -S /lib/modules/2.6.15-27-686/kernel/drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/qla2100.ko
linux-image-2.6.15-27-686: /lib/modules/2.6.15-27-686/kernel/drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/qla2100.ko

Edgy does not. Please restore this kernel module.

On Edgy box:

root@albert:~# locate qla2100
root@albert:~#
root@albert:~# uname -r
2.6.17-10-386

Was this removed for a special reason?

We're experiencing this too with Edgy RC1. It appears that all the qla2xxx modules have been removed so our QLA2300 series cards don't work either.

Having the modules on the live cd makes for a great diagnostic utility, as well as having our storage available straight after installation.

After upgradeing from dapper to edgy on a SAN booting server with a "QLogic Corp. QLA2312 Fibre Channel Adapter" It won't boot with any 2.6.17* kernel. There are no drivers, and there is no firmware.

1. The drivers qla2xxx drivers have to be added to the .config so they get into the kernel rpm
2. The firmware needs to be added to /lib/firmware/*.
3. a mkinitramfs hook needs to be added to put /lib/udev/firmware_helper and /lib/firmware/qla* into the initrd

Look at firmware-qlogic_0.3_all.deb for how debian does it, it doesn't quit work for ubuntu because we don't have the kernel modules and that deb expects /lib/udev/firmware.agent insted of /lib/udev/firmware_helper

This seems like an excessive amount of time for a bug that stops a server from booting and has an easy known fix.

It was reported 3 weeks ago and its still Undecided Importance and unassigned.

When can we expect to see a new package with this fix, It would be nice to get my servers up again?

We've enabled the qla2xxx driver, and added the appropriate firmware. Complete fix depends on 74004 as well, which is being worked on.

See bug 74004 for the initramfs issues which need to be fixed in order for this to take effect

This report was marked 'Fix Committed' a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. bug 74004 has since been marked 'Fix Released'. I'm going to go ahead and mark the status as 'Fix Released'. If this is not the case, please retest against the latest Hardy Alpha release and report back your results. Thanks in advance.
