Using Gutsy on a D830, updated from all repositories (proposed, universe, multi-universe, backports)

$ uname -a
Linux host 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Dec 18 08:02:57 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

$ lspci | grep -i wireless
0c:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02)

Tried both the ipw3945, iwl3945 and using Hardy alpha-3. No luck on either of them. While using iwl3945 i have the same symptoms but a bit different entries in the log (I forgot to save the dmesg from the live cd, but if I'm not totally wrong it was very similar to using iwl3945 with gutsy):
