disabling all modules and deleting the ' Section "DRI" ' leads to nothing: No start with the 2.6.20-Kernel.
But as i deactivated the whole Module-section i had to start with strg-alt-f2 (or 2?). Ubuntu didn't start in the grafic mode. Therefore i copied the backup-file to xorg.conf.
I dislike such experiences because i'm not a linux or unix expert.
The stepwise deactivation of the two modules, what you suggested, shows no effect.
