I updated my Hardy system using the update manager and I'm now using "Ubuntu 2.6.24-16.30-generic".
I then restarted and once gnome was loaded I plugged in the camera. I tried the camera on Ekiga but at first it didn't work as it was setup to use v4l2... I then switch to v4l and it detected the camera driver and it worked, for about 30 seconds!! Now I can't get Ekiga to load again (haven't restarted yet).
I also installed "cheese" but it didn't pick up the camera (maybe because v4l2 is default??).
I have attached a dmesg.log which I hope you can find the problem. I really appreciate your spending time to fix this bug.
