The memory remap can be enabled, thus allowing up to 8 gigs of ram, but one must add to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist the line 'blacklist intel_agp'.
There does not seem to be bug entry here that I can find so perhaps this should be for the latter problem as well?
Also of note is that the attansic LAN card now works out of the box.
