Has this patch been posted to the alsa-devel mailing list, or as a bug report? If not, I strongly suggest either you, or the original author do so.

In any case, I will see about getting this patch into at least the Ubuntu Intrepid release, and possibly hardy as well, although that is a little doubtful.
