Is this bug still being worked on? It's still broken on a fully updated Hardy as of August 12th.
My only workaround (other than using drivers which don't support my monitor's native resolution) is to boot into an older kernel (in recovery mode), run the X fixer, then reboot. Sometimes.. sometimes it works.
