The above solution did not work for me! I took my laptop to the service center and I was told that the USB ports are not receiving enough power. They (the USB ports) are supposed to be getting 5mA, but they were only getting 2mA. A lsusb -v showed they are getting only 0mA !!!

still my pendrive or usb mouse does not work...
