oh also ive tried
1.) the unbind commands mentioned above for ls /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd
the devices disappeared from ls /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd, but the error messages still appear on kern.log.
2.) unplugging the laptop and removing the battery as mentioned in forums, to no avail.
3.) also tried update-usbids at terminal (error still goes on and on)
others can try these though, in case their error message is caused by something else
(also upgraded bios to latest from HP site released this year to no avail)
so next step for me is to install all updates for this amd64 installation, see if fixed.
if not try out the unplugging method again.
then if not try installing the 32 bit ubuntu 11.04 desktop.
