add one more. i can boot, but extra memory is ignored. ubuntu does not recognize anything beyond 2gb. i will investigate further in the morning.

I upgraded from 8.04 a few weeks ago and recently bought more ram, which is the cause of my even noticing. I'll play around with it and make sure it isn't a hardware issue, but i already have the ram, and i will use it, one way or another.

That's why 8.04 is a LTS release, because it is more reliable overall, at least, that is the premise.
