By way of further information, this crashes disappears when the proprietary nvidia is driver removed (version 185).
When it is activated the kernel oops crash is reported by apport around 10-20 seconds after logon to the gnome desktop. It has occurred with both the x86_64 generic kernels 2.31.10 and 2.31.11.
Motherboard is an Asus A8N-SLI premium with 4GB non-ECC RAM and nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7300 LE] rev 161 card. There is no option to enable/disable ECC in the Phoenix bios.
