I can confirm this bug still being there in (K)ubuntu 10.10 RC1 amd64 ISO image.

My hardware is an Intel DG965WH mainboard with an Intel 82566DC Ethernet chip that's driven by the e1000e module. An update to the most recent BIOS provided by Intel did not solve the problem.

As for example is stated in [1] this issue seems to be an upstream one from 2.6.35 kernel series. I had the same behaviour while running Arch Linux on the said machine when the kernel was upgraded from 2.6.34->2.6.35.

However, I think that this is an issue that would be very good to have solved before releasing Maverick because these Intel Chips seem to be very common and thus there's a potential for many people to be affected by this when upgrading from lucid.
