Some news in case it could be of any help:

1. Tested kernel 2.6.32 as requested. Network fails.

2. Tried to completely reset BIOS settings, in case this was sonehow related to that, being integrated. No changes.

3. Tried to use RTL-8029 on the same system and that seems to work.
