Thanks Stéphane Guillou for adding to this discussion!!! I am glad to know the problem is resolved in the newest version (though, it may have been a problem in the packaging???) Does LMMS appear in the correct category in USC?
I have been on a quest to find the right person to fix this problem for quite some time now, and this person is now listed as the maintainer for LMMS

it used to be someone else (who never answered e-mails) I contacted them today and listed some of the bugs related to this issue (as well as linked them all together as duplicates) Hopefully this will be resolved soon.
