I manually downloaded and installed lyx_1.6.0-1_all.deb and lyx-common_1.6.0-1_all.deb from Jaunty on an Intrepid system, and no other jaunty packages were required. I've been using it for 1 few days now, and it appears to be functioning correctly.
Therefore I believe that "backporting" lyx 1.6.0 to intrepid (at least) should be fairly easy to accomplish. It may even just be copying the jaunty packages.
