Yes, that's happened to me as well. A classmate loading a presentation from my USB drive with a running projector, and navigating into my .Trash folder because it wasn't hidden on Windows (in front of everyone). Could have been more embarrassing than it was.

I would vote for a default "deletions from an external drive are permanent" setting, or some other set of changes that make dot-folders hidden on FAT32 drives.
