I have a similar issue: when I open the network manager, the default setting is WPA, but I use WPA2 for my home network, so I change the setting to WPA2 and enter a password, when close the window. After that the network connection run flawlessly until the next reboot. After reboot, I have to enter the network manager again and change to WPA2. It looks like NM does not save the selected settings.
