The blue/white progress bar isn't corrupted, it /is/ plymouth. You do have plymouth at startup; you don't have a graphical splash screen at startup, because the nvidia driver doesn't expose a framebuffer that plymouth can use to display graphics. The latter is an issue that should be addressed, but is separate from not getting *any* feedback on nvidia chips.
