The same on mi desktop:

/etc/default/grub :

GRUB_GFXMODE=1440x900
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1440x900

/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash :

FRAMEBUFFER=y

As root or sudo:

update-initramfs -u
update-grub

TTy's are OK
