"Legitimate bug" is not the threshold for an SRU. There are many legitimate bugs that we decline to fix.

Fixing this bug carries the non-local risk that subsequent security updates of OTHER packages will have regressions because the build flags used to compile them have been "corrected" to a value previously untested by us.
And as I said, this can be worked around in local code.
