I still think something on that clean&reinstall isn't right - but can't point out what.

Take this script with a grain of salt - but this should more or less be what I expected you to do to clean up.
You might take and refine it as you think appropriate - take care of the "rm" to not hit something else.

- report the version you used here
- run it
- attach the full output of running it here
