@Steve, thanks for the details. Well, I actually wanted to improve the ease of use with the link, since I saw it like this in other environments, but have missed the consequence you kindly described.
@Halil please notice that we don't have support for any 31-bit code (s390) in Ubuntu at all.
So we will have to care for Z in Ubuntu on /usr/lib/s390x-linux-gnu only.
I think it's indeed best to look for a way to *move* the file at build-time to /usr/lib (like suggested). (But I'll also have a look at libfakeroot first.)
