Bill Zaumen: You're right, there are many possible scenarios.

However, if I understand correctly how the kernel assigns new pts numbers, I think it should be possible to circumvent the problem you described. That is, if you keep your old connection open, and start a new one, you should get a new pts number for the new connection, with fresh sudo capabilities. (I imagine there may be situations where the amount of connections has been limited, but usually I think this should work.)

Of course, we're again assuming that we _are_ using the default "tty_tickets" option.
