This crash occurred when I upgraded to 8.04 from the previous release.
Maybe that's a hint. After rebuilding the package database I didn't
have any further problems with release 8.04.

Yesterday I've installed version 8.10 from scratch and it works fine so far.

No, I'm not. I just use Linux (debian and ubuntu) since many years.
