Having the same issue with a fresh install of Kubuntu 15.04 today.
Workaround: Ctrl+Alt+F2 , log in, find the X process with "ps axuw | grep X ", then sudo kill it.
It's annoying to do that after every reboot, is there any permanent workaround?
