I scrapped my dual-boot (I had used XP as back up to Gutsy because Skype wouldn't work on Gutsy - problem with SB Live! support.
I installed Hardy from scratch after repartitioning HD.
All went fairly easily, and I even had the audio in and audio out working (that was the sole raison-d'etre for keeing the XP partition). I tested it using Skype and the Skype audio test (I heard the sounds on the speaker, and heard my voice back confirming that audio output worked properly).
That only lasted for a couple of hours. A couple of reboots, and some updates,later, the audio indicator on the bar had a red cross beside it, indicating it was no longer functioning. - seems the system no longer detected my soundcard (not at all).
I did some tests and gathered info...
I have a SB Live! card - and I know that support for it under Ubuntu is iffy.
Audio Conferencing
Sound playback: Autodetect
Sound capture: ALSA - Advanced Linx Architecture
test = gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audiosample ! gconfaudiosink
profile=chat: Could not open audio device for recording.
Using OSS-Open Sound System
test = gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audiosample ! gconfaudiosink
profile=chat: Could not open audio device for recording.
Using Test Sound
test = gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audiosample ! gconfaudiosink
profile=chat: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument
Any ideas of why audio input and output worked at the outset, and now does not?
