Ubuntu with the gtk frontend in all three cases. I'm happy to try other frontends too if that's useful.

Re: bug 32845, ah, yes, i had seen that behaviour previously, and had been wondering when it had been fixed. cool.

Re: no lvm for live installer, sure, that makes perfect sense. I've used the text-mode install on the 2 affected machines with no problems.
