There is still a huge installed base of Palm users, and Palm continues to produce smartphones with PalmOS installed. Palm isn't going out of business. I don't see how it hurts anyone to have a feature essential for lots of people in the default distro. Just because some don't use it, that doesn't mean nobody else should.
