I think the problem is that /etc/iftab has the wrong Mac-Adress. It was auto generated during dist-upgrade from breezy here.
$ cat /etc/iftab # This file assigns persistent names to network interfaces. See iftab(5). eth0 mac 00:80:c8:fa:e1:18
$ ifconfig eth1 Protokoll:Ethernet Hardware Adresse 00:0B:6A:BB:8E:ED
These Mac Adresses do not match. I will now test if it works, when they are the same.
