Bug Description

I was doing update-manager -c -d to upgrade from Dapper to Edgy Knot 2 when I got this error in /var/log/dist-upgrade/term.log

edgy: Fatal IO error 9 (Bad file descriptor) on X server :0.0

And then the upgrade stops. The update-manager shows me a window saying:

'installArchives() failed'

Thanks for your bugreport.

Can you please attach all of the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ to this bugreport? This will help me idenitify the problem.

Thanks,
 Michael

Sorry but this error let me in a Frankeinstein Dapper, with a strange GTK. SO I did a clean install of Edgy and I do not have these logs anymore.

I suggest you to try the upgrade if you have enough resources to do the test (I don't). Upgrading from Dapper still has several problems. I've just faced 3 of them and all those 3 wasn't reported before as this one, what makes me belive that more testing is needed.

Thanks for this additional information. I will try to reproduce it here, but it is often difficult to reproduce upgrade problem because they may depend on customizations on the users machine. We do a lot of upgrade testing here, but there are quite a few problems that are not caught by this.

I will close this bugreport because it does not contain enough information to diagnose what went wrong in this particular case.

Thanks,
 Michael
