(Sorry I posted this response to the wrong [but similar] bug earlier and now can't find it. It belongs here.)
I tried an update again after "unchecking" lib6c (and a couple lib6c*) the updates quickly downloaded and I saw a desktop (not a "please reboot" msg). I then clicked on the update icon again and saw about 11 new packages (several more than the lib6c*. I continued the install and after a few minutes Ubuntu asked me to reboot to complete the upgrade. I did and everything was fine. Could this be as simple as an install order problem?
