Thanks mate!

I am now (after 3 reboots) confirming Bazmata's solution:-)

For morons like me, try:
  Settings -> Settings Manager -> Keyboard -> Layout -> Check "Use system defaults"
  Then define the "Change layout option" this time (hopefully) for good!
