Also thanks for your independent verification! I tried my own fix
#1,#2 all day today, interrupted fading 100+ times without issue.
Looks like we have this issue fixed properly.

Anyone knows how to bring this issue and fix to the attention of Xorg
folks? I filed
    bug622651 Xext/sync.c IDLETIME counter sometimes fails to fire
              negative transition alarms
on the Xorg side, but saw no action on it yet. We need them to review
and approve this two fixes and put into the source tree.
