"$sudo xresprobe intel" gives me 1280x768 (WRONG)
"$sudo xresprobe i810" gives me 1024x768 (CORRECT)

Is there any way to work around this problem? The i810 driver is much more flakey on this PC than the intel driver. I'd really like to get the intel driver back.
