Please test the packages in my PPA at:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/q-funk/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/q-funk/ubuntu hardy main

Those contain an experimental patch from AMD that bypasses the BIOS completely and instead uses the X.org libddc to directly poll the display.

Please let the release manager know ASAP if this package solves this issue or not. We have less than 24h left to get any change into Hardy. Otherwise, the upload will move to the next Ubuntu release.
